Quilt Block Mania - February 2023: Love Encircled Block
Hello, February Quilt Block Mania-ers! I hope you’re as excited as I am about this month’s Quilt Block Mania theme — connection! This month, in addition to my block, you can download blocks from a great group of designers for free* and get started making right away. You’ll find photos of all the blocks and links to the other designers at the bottom of the post, but first, let me introduce you to my Love Encircled block!
The Love Encircled block is a simple introduction to incorporating foundation paper piecing (FPP) into a block. It combines both traditional piecing and FPP to create a symbol of the power of being encircled by the arms of love. Love comes in many forms, and the families we all create for ourselves can look very different. In the end, it’s about connection and making sure the people we surround ourselves with are there to love and support us.
The Love Encircled block pdf includes instructions for making a 12.5” block (finishes at 12”), and you can go simple or scrappy with this design. I dug through my scrap bin to find some fun, fussy-cuttable prints for the corner diamonds, and I just love those cheetahs (cats? whatever feline they are) on the left. The pattern includes fabric requirements for using scraps or a single fabric for the big squares.
While the FPP heart is small, it’s also a very simple shape, so if you’re new to FPP, don’t let it scare you!
