Halloween Sewing Projects 2025 Round Up
Can you believe spooky season is upon us already?! It may not feel like fall outside yet, but I can feel us inching toward apple picking, sweater wearing, and pumpkin spying soon (at least I hope!).
All the dreams of cool breezes and actual pumpkins popping up on porches has me in the mood for some Halloween sewing, so I’m here for an updated Halloween project round up! Let’s get started!
Last year, I introduced you to the Pumpkin Love block, and it’s sure to bring joy back again this year. This simple FREE pattern is designed for foundation paper piecing (FPP) and includes paper-piecing templates for two block sizes: 4” and 6” finished. It also includes instructions for turning the larger block into a coaster or trivet! The size options for this block make it perfect for sampler-style quilts or all kinds of other projects, so you can use it however you like.
There are so many cute Halloween fabrics available these days, and I wanted to create a pattern that would let me use as many of them as possible. While I've seen a ton of pumpkin blocks over the years, scrappy witches had yet to have their day in the sun (err...night under the moon?), so I decided to put an end to that. The result is the One Scrappy Witch block pattern, a simple and fun addition to your Halloween sewing repertoire. I think you’ll find it’s hard to make just one of these blocks.
The pattern includes two block sizes — 12 ½” and 18 ½” square (unfinished) — so you can choose the size that works for your needs. This blog post includes lots of ideas, speaking of which…
The 12.5” block in the One Scrappy Witch block pattern is perfect for a candy tote for trick-or-treating! This free tutorial shows you how to make your own!
Next, check out my free One Scrappy Pumpkin block tutorial to keep the scrappy sewing going! This simple block combines squares and HSTs to create a super-size 18.5” block. Like the One Scrappy Witch block, this pumpkin is perfect for inserting into all your Halloween quilts, pillows, or wall hangings.
Need an idea for how to do just that? After seeing a few other scrappy spooky-themed blocks pop up, I started brainstorming my own scrappy sampler Halloween quilt. This free quilt layout uses the One Scrappy Witch and One Scrappy Pumpkin blocks, along with several other free or very inexpensive patterns from other modern quilt designers to create a fun holiday quilt perfect for highlighting your favorite Halloween fabrics. Time to start planning!
Next, why not add a little fun to your coffee or dining-room table with the free “BOO!” Blocks pattern? The pattern walks you through making the individual blocks and then provides basic instructions for turning them into coasters (like mine!) or a table runner, but don’t let your imagination or creativity stop there. These would be so cute incorporated into the sampler quilt above!
Finally, if you follow me on IG, you may remember this sweet little ghost house I stitched up last year using the Mini Fabric Houses tutorial I wrote for The Cutting Table (TCT), the digital quilting zine by the Suzy Quilts team. Every issue of TCT is chock full of fun projects. You can find the house tutorial in Issue 22, but when you subscribe, you get full access to all TCT issues, plus a lot of other benefits. Check it out here!
So, what’s on your Halloween sewing wish list?
